Beams, the iconic Japanese clothing brand, was founded in 1976 in the trendy district of Harajuku, Tokyo, by Etsuzo Shitara. Under the leadership of current CEO Yō Shitara, Beams has flourished over the years, establishing its presence with 167 stores across Japan and another 10 stores worldwide, including locations in New York City, Milan, London, and Paris.
The Beams brand is renowned for its diverse offerings, which extend beyond clothing to encompass interior goods, furniture, galleries, footwear, accessories, and more. Within the clothing department, Beams provides a wide range of options, from shoes and bags to men’s and women’s casual wear, and even custom-tailored pieces. Notably, Beams’ logo and artwork are characterized by an abstract, somewhat cartoonish aesthetic.
In a testament to its creative spirit, Beams has engaged in intriguing collaborations. One such collaboration in June 2017 involved partnering with McDonald’s to produce a limited edition of Big Mac-themed merchandise, including t-shirts, hats, and iPhone 7 covers.
Beams’ international expansion began in May 2005, with the opening of a store in Hong Kong, initially focusing on women’s clothing. This was followed by further expansion into various locations in 2006. The brand’s global presence continued to grow, with the most recent store opening its doors in March 2015 in Bangkok.
Beams remains a symbol of Japanese fashion innovation and creativity, offering a diverse array of products that cater to the tastes of individuals both in Japan and around the world.
