Rolex Hulk Gen Vs Fake

Last Updated on January 13, 2026 by Ch David

Spotting a fake Rolex Hulk is not always straightforward.

The Submariner 116610LV, nicknamed “Hulk” for its bold green dial and bezel, has become one of the most collectible modern Rolex references. Prices have surged since it was discontinued in 2020, and that rise has brought an increase in convincing counterfeits.

Collectors value the Hulk not just for its striking color but also for its position in Submariner history. That uniqueness is exactly what counterfeiters try to imitate, though they rarely succeed in reproducing the exact shades, materials, and details that define the genuine watch.

This guide will walk you through the key elements that separate an authentic Rolex Hulk from even the best fakes. From color tones to engravings and bracelet quality, each step is based on checks trusted by experienced collectors and watchmakers.

How to tell if a Rolex Hulk is REAL (or not)

The clearest way to begin authenticating a Rolex Hulk is to study the color of its dial and bezel.

On a genuine 116610LV, the green has a deep emerald tone that changes subtly under different light. Counterfeits often get this wrong, showing either a flat lime green or an overly dark shade that lacks the Rolex depth and sunburst effect.

Because the Hulk’s identity is tied to its color, this is one of the quickest ways to identify a fake. Of course, no single check is enough. A full authentication also requires examining the weight, rehaut engraving, date magnification, and bracelet construction, which we will cover step by step in this guide.

1. Color

  • Authentic: The ceramic bezel shows a rich emerald green, with depth and vibrancy under different light angles.
  • Fake: The bezel often looks too dark or flat, lacking the lively green tone of the real piece.
Authentic vs fake Rolex Hulk comparison of the color

Rolex invested years of development into the precise hue of the Hulk’s green ceramic.

The authentic bezel reflects a deep emerald tone that changes subtly under direct light, a feature that is both distinctive and difficult to replicate.

Collectors prize this nuance because it embodies Rolex’s attention to finishing and long-term color stability.

Counterfeit pieces often fall short here. Replicas typically use lower-grade ceramic or poor coatings, resulting in a bezel that looks dull, overly dark, or inconsistent in tone. Under bright light, a fake bezel will fail to capture the crisp vibrancy of a genuine Hulk.

When authenticating, view the bezel in natural light and rotate the watch to catch different angles. A genuine emerald green will “come alive,” whereas a counterfeit often looks deadened or monotone.

Rolex is known to be one of the most respectable brands in the watch industry, so know that no quality is ever lacking in a genuine watch – even with the color!

2. Date window

  • Authentic: Numbers sit perfectly centered within the aperture, with consistent thickness across all digits.
  • Fake: The number “2” often sits lower, looking thin, while the “3” may appear thicker or uneven.
Authentic vs fake Rolex Hulk comparison of the date window

Rolex pays obsessive attention to the typography and placement of the date.

On an authentic Submariner Hulk, the numerals are crisp, evenly proportioned, and precisely centered inside the window. This consistency is part of what makes the date complication so legible.

Replica watches struggle here because they lack the same printing precision and movement calibration. The result is numbers that look too light, too bold, or even slightly misaligned – details that become obvious under a loupe. For example, a fake often shows the “2” sitting low in the frame or the “3” rendered with heavier strokes.

A reliable tip is to photograph the date at multiple positions (2, 3, 5, 9, etc.).

In a real Hulk, every digit fills the frame evenly. Any drift, crowding, or uneven stroke weight should raise red flags.

3. Cyclops lens

  • Authentic: The cyclops lens magnifies the date clearly, with anti-reflective coating that ensures readability under different lighting.
  • Fake: Magnification is often weak or distorted, with glare that makes the date harder to read.
Authentic vs fake Rolex Hulk comparison of the cyclops lens

On a genuine Submariner Hulk, the cyclops lens offers around 2.5× magnification. This enlargement makes the date fill the window with sharp clarity.

Combined with Rolex’s anti-reflective coating, the date remains legible even when light bounces off the sapphire crystal.

In some cases, the number looks blurry because the cyclops is poorly aligned with the aperture.

When authenticating, tilt the watch under strong light. A genuine cyclops will keep the date sharp and visible, while a fake will show distracting reflections or a faint, undersized number.

Why replicas fail here

Counterfeits often use lower-grade glass or poor bonding. That leads to odd-angle distortion and lower magnification. Even when the glass is clear, a small misplacement over the date causes blur or a ghost outline.

4. Bracelet & Lugs

  • Authentic: The Oyster bracelet fits flush against the case, with lugs that leave no gaps and seamless integration.
  • Fake: Gaps appear between bracelet and lugs, with poorly machined edges that break the smooth profile.
Authentic vs fake Rolex Hulk comparison of the bracelet and lugs

The bracelet-to-case junction is where Rolex machining shows.

Use a loupe and a strong desk lamp. Look for daylight peeking through at the ends. Gently push the end link toward the case. Any visible movement or uneven gap is a red flag.

✔ Do, what you want to see
  • End links sit flush, no visible gap.
  • Lug edges clean and even on both sides.
  • Smooth case-to-bracelet line when viewed in profile.
✘ Don’t, red flags
  • Daylight at the end link corners.
  • Rocking end link when pressed toward the case.
  • Rough inner lug edges or uneven spacing left vs right.

Genuine Oyster end links seat tightly between the lugs, and the outer profile reads as a single, continuous curve. That precision reduces rattle and wear at the spring bars.

Replicas often leave a hairline gap that catches light. The end link may rock if you press it, or the inner lug edges can look rough. Even good copies struggle to keep the fit tight across both sides of the case.

5. Bezel rotation

  • Authentic: The ceramic bezel rotates with a smooth, precise 120-click action that feels controlled and satisfying.
  • Fake: The bezel often feels rough, stiff, or too loose, with uneven resistance during rotation.
Highlighting how to rotate the bezel of a Rolex Hulk, using a green arrow and a hand-emoji

The bezel action is one of the tactile hallmarks of a Submariner.

Rolex engineers the mechanism with a precise ratcheting system that provides smooth resistance and an audible click with each of the 120 positions. This gives the authentic watch a consistent, reliable feel when timing dives or everyday intervals.

Counterfeits usually fail to reproduce this refinement. Many replicas feel gritty or harsh when turned, while others swing too freely without the reassuring click of a genuine Submariner.

Even advanced fakes rarely manage to mimic the exact tactile balance between smoothness and firmness.

When authenticating, rotate the bezel slowly in both directions. A real Hulk will glide evenly with distinct, firm clicks, while a fake may skip, jam, or feel inconsistent across its rotation.

Note: Having only the replica in your hands without a comparison of the authentic watch can be difficult. However, anything that feels wrong most definitely points to a replica.

6. Winding action

  • Authentic: The crown pulls out and rotates smoothly, with a fluid winding action that feels controlled and effortless.
  • Fake: Winding is often jerky, stiff, or inconsistent, reflecting inferior internal engineering.
Showing how to use the crown to wind a Rolex Submariner Hulk — additional text is added for instructions

The winding action is another detail where Rolex’s mechanical expertise is immediately evident.

On a genuine Submariner Hulk, the Triplock crown unscrews smoothly, then allows the wearer to adjust time and date with minimal resistance. The feel is precise but never forced, reflecting the refinement of Rolex’s movement.

Replica watches expose their limitations here. Because they use lower-grade movements, the crown often feels tight, scratchy, or uneven when rotated.

Some counterfeits even fail to engage the movement properly, making the setting process unreliable.

Collectors should test winding carefully. A genuine crown action will feel smooth and repeatable every time, while a counterfeit reveals its flaws in stiffness, grinding, or lack of responsiveness.

7. Crown guard

  • Authentic: The crown guards are symmetrical, evenly shaped, and finished with sharp, clean edges.
  • Fake: The guards are uneven, asymmetrical, or crudely finished, with softer edges.
Authentic vs fake Rolex Hulk comparison of the crown guard

On an authentic Submariner Hulk, the crown guards are precisely machined to protect the Triplock crown while maintaining symmetry with the case. Both guards mirror each other in shape and size, and the finishing is sharp but refined. This balance between protection and aesthetics is a hallmark of Rolex case design.

Counterfeit models almost always reveal shortcomings here. The guards may look lopsided, with one side thicker than the other, or their contours may appear rough and less defined. These flaws arise from cheaper machining and lack of Rolex’s quality control.

When authenticating, examine the crown guard symmetry with the naked eye and confirm under magnification. Any imbalance in size, slope, or finishing should raise suspicion.

Note: we also have a Rolex Datejust authentication guide if you’re interested!

8. Bezel engravings

  • Authentic: The bezel numerals and markers are deep, wide, and sharply defined within the ceramic insert.
  • Fake: Engravings are shallow, narrow, or inconsistent, often lacking the crisp edges of the genuine piece.
Authentic vs fake Rolex Hulk comparison of the bezel's lines

Rolex engraves its ceramic bezels with remarkable precision. On the Submariner Hulk, each numeral and marker is cut deep into the surface, creating wide, sharp impressions.

This not only enhances visibility but also ensures longevity, as the markings resist wear over years of use.

Replica bezels rarely achieve this standard. Their engravings often look faint, thin, or uneven, betraying the limitations of the tools used.

Under magnification, the edges of counterfeit markings may appear soft or poorly defined, contrasting sharply with the crisp cuts of a genuine bezel.

A reliable test is to inspect the bezel under angled light. Authentic engravings cast distinct shadows because of their depth, while fake ones may barely reflect relief at all.

9. Rehaut engravings

  • Authentic: The “ROLEX” inscriptions on the rehaut are deeply etched, sharp, and perfectly aligned with the minute markers.
  • Fake: The engravings are thinner, shallower, and often misaligned or lacking depth.
Authentic vs fake Rolex Hulk comparison of the rehaut's engravings

The rehaut (the inner bezel ring between the dial and the crystal) is another key point of reference.

On genuine Submariner Hulk models, Rolex engraves “ROLEX” repeatedly around the rehaut, with each word aligned exactly to a corresponding minute marker. The depth and sharpness of these engravings are unmistakable.

Replicas, however, commonly falter here. The text is usually too thin or faint, sometimes laser-etched at a depth that fails to catch the light. Misalignment is also frequent, with letters drifting off their intended marker positions.

These inconsistencies are a giveaway even on otherwise convincing fakes.

Collectors should inspect the rehaut with a loupe under strong light. A real Hulk shows bold, deep etching with impeccable alignment, while a fake will almost always reveal weakness in precision.

10. Sunburst dial effect

  • Authentic: The dial exhibits a vibrant sunburst effect that shifts shades of green under different lighting and angles.
  • Fake: The dial looks flat, dull, or shows only a weak imitation of the sunburst finish.
Authentic vs fake Rolex Hulk comparison of the sunburst-dial effect

The Hulk’s dial is famous for its sunburst finish, a shimmering green that transforms with changing light. On an authentic Rolex, the effect is dynamic and lively.

The dial appears to glow, transitioning from deep emerald to brighter green depending on the viewing angle.

Counterfeits rarely replicate this complexity. Their dials often look flat and lifeless, sometimes painted with a basic green that lacks Rolex’s multi-layered finish.

Even when fakes attempt a sunburst pattern, it usually appears faint, uneven, or artificial compared to the genuine spectacle.

When authenticating, tilt the watch slowly under direct light. A true Submariner Hulk reveals a dial that seems alive, while a replica’s finish remains static and uninspiring.

Quick Guide: Spotting Fake vs Real Rolex Hulk in 30 Seconds

If you only have a moment, here is the fast version of the full authentication guide. Each point highlights what collectors actually check when separating a genuine Submariner Hulk from a counterfeit.

  1. Color → Bezel and dial show rich emerald tones that shift under light, not flat or overly dark.
  2. Date window → Numerals centred, consistent thickness, no drifting or uneven strokes.
  3. Cyclops lens → 2.5× magnification, sharp and anti-reflective, not weak, distorted, or misaligned.
  4. Bracelet & Lugs → End links fit tight with no gaps, smooth lug edges, seamless case integration.
  5. Bezel rotation → Smooth 120-click action, firm and even, not rough, loose, or gritty.
  6. Winding action → Crown unscrews and winds fluidly, no stiffness, grinding, or jerky resistance.
  7. Crown guard → Guards are symmetrical, evenly shaped, with sharp finishing, not lopsided or soft.
  8. Bezel engravings → Numerals are deep, wide, and sharply cut, not shallow or faint.
  9. Rehaut engravings → “ROLEX” text deep and aligned with minute markers, not thin or misaligned.
  10. Sunburst dial effect → Dial shifts vibrant green shades under light, not flat, painted, or lifeless.

hello friends i’m alex welcome back

today we’re going to cover our guide on the rolex hulk watch which is the 116610 lv

we have here both the genuine item and the replica item and i’m going to show you in 10 steps how you can decide if you’re holding an authentic item in your hands or a replica item

today i have both the genuine and the replica rolex hulk holding in my hands and i’m gonna challenge you to another game

i’m gonna ask you to pause this video right now and leave us a comment with what which one of the watches you think is the genuine one and which is the replica the one that i’m holding on my right hand or on the left hand

afterwards please resume the video and see the result

so if you went for the watch in my right hand as being the genuine item you have the correct answer this is the genuine item well on the left hand i was holding the replica item the top quality replica so right now let’s have a look at the guide on how to spot the differences between the genuine item and the replica item on our rolex hulk submariner watch

today for the first step we’re going to inspect the color and as you will see there are differences when it comes to the green color on the basil which is the unique design of the rolex hulk

the second step we’re going to take a look at the date window and we’re going to see if the date is perfectly centered and the font is correct

for the third step we’re going to inspect the cyclops lens and how this lens magnifies the date in the date window and you’re gonna see that there are differences here as well

fourth step we’re gonna inspect the bracelet and the lugs on your rolex submariner watch and we’re gonna decide which are the main differences here as well

for the fifth step we’re going to use the rotatable basil we’re going to rotate it and see how it clicks on the genuine item and what are the differences on the replica item

for the sixth step we’re gonna analyze the winding action of your rolex hulk and you’re gonna see how it feels different and we’re gonna transpose how it feels in the in the video and tell you what the main differences are

for the seventh step we’re gonna take a look at the crown guards and see how the crown is guarded by the two items on the genuine watch as well as on the replica watch

the eighth step we’re gonna check the engravings on the basil their quality on the genuine item versus the replica item

the next step we’re gonna take a look at some other engravings which are those that can be found on the rihot both on the genuine item and on the replica item

fourth the tenth step and the last one we’re going to examine the sambar style effect on your rolex hulk watch

Tell #1 – Hulk Colour

so right now we’re going to start with the first step which is the color of your basil on the rolex hulk

you can find this hulk color the green color which is available on the genuine item most of the replica manufacturers cannot perfectly replicate the color

so if you will have a look a look at the basil and of course if you get the chance to put both watches one next to another you will definitely see the differences in the color

uh as the replica items most of the times they are a bit lighter so the green is a lighter shade let’s say while the original item has its green perfectly colored as a perfect color very close to the hull character in the in the cartoons

of course you can google it and have a look at the color code of your of your hulk of the original item and you can put that color that image next to your watch to the watch that you’re holding and see if there are any differences

of course if you’re taking a look on some other internet pictures with the rolex hulk it depends it depends on the light on the sun shade and so on so you might have differences there as well even though you might be looking at the genuine item

so guys for the first step i’m going to leave you with this take a close look of the green color which on the genuine item always has to be very intense very saturated and very vibrant this is all i can say for now unless you have both of the items holding in your hand the replica and the jamie

Tell #2 – Date Window

for the second step we’re gonna take a look at the date window and uh how the date is centered within the date window

so on the genuine item again you’re gonna always have the date perfectly centered into the date window with the correct font

on the replicas this this is again a tell that you can see as the date is not always perfectly centered i mean the numbers in the date window and also the font is most of the times a bit thinner than the one that can be found on the genuine item

always take a look at the date window and if you get the chance try switching manually winding the watch and manually changing the date so you can have a closer look to some different numbers as well those numbers always have to be perfectly centered with the with no flaws in the date window

Tell #3 – Cyclops Lens

for the third step on the guide we are going to take a look at the cyclops lens the cyclops lens is the magnifying glass above your date window that helps you easily read the date it actually magnifies the date so you can easily read it

again on the genuine item you will always have this this lens perfectly magnifying and assisting you in reading the date the number in the date window while on the replica item some of the times it might either magnify it a bit too much or a bit too low

of course this can also be seen in our written guide and in the picture so you can tell the differences

however another tell that you need to look after when talking about the cyclops lens is the is the anti-reflective coating that is available always on the genuine item

so this means that light can not easily be reflected from the cyclops lens while on the replica items some of the manufacturers don’t use the anti-reflective coating and the light might be reflected so you cannot read the date if the sun goes directly into your dent window you need to change your hand to switch it in order to to get the sun out of the date window

Tell #4 – Bracelet and Lugs

for the fourth step we’re going to inspect the bracelet and the lugs of your rolex submariner

so taking a closer look on the on both items you will see that if again you get the chance to hold both items on your hand the bracelet feels totally different and it’s of much higher quality on the genuine item

so uh take a close look at the at the bracelet and make sure that you can easily adapt it easily close the clasp and open it nothing feels uh unusual

if anything feels unusual it might be the chance that you’re holding a replica item in your hand

furthermore inspect the glide lock clasp as well and see how easily you can adjust the clasp

again if you’re holding a replica item you might get the chance to pull up or push it a bit harder or it simply doesn’t feel good

if it’s not good again you you might be holding a replica item in your hand

so take a close look at the lugs as well at 12 o’clock and six o’clock here you must not have any space in between the bracelet that connects to the watch between the lugs neither at 12 o’clock or at six o’clock

if any light passes by this means that you’re having a gap if it’s not symmetrical you are holding a replica item in your hand most of the times

Tell #5 – Rotatable Bezel

for the fifth step we’re gonna take a look at the rotatable basil and uh what i’m telling you about is the fact that of course you most probably know that the basil rotates

uh you need to manually try and rotate the basil again if anything feels inconsistent here if anything feels awkward

uh most probably you’re not holding a a genuine item in your hands

so uh again i’m having right here both the genuine item and the fake one and i can definitely tell the difference

on the replica item the clicks are a bit harsher and again when you’re trying to rotate the basil you need to pull some extra force on it it’s not that smooth

if it feels inconsistent if it feels awkward you’re holding a replica item in your hand

so the genuine item is a bit i would use the word clicky it it feels it feels nice smooth and it clicks very in a very elegant manner the sound is very nice

Tell #6 – Winding Action

for the sixth step i’m gonna tell you to try and analyze the winding action of your watch

again if it feels smooth and everything feels fine you’re probably holding a genuine item in your hands

if you’re holding a replica item it might feel at times a bit harder to wind your watch or it feels like it’s not really working well

including when trying to wind your watch as well as when you’re trying to adjust the date or the time

so take a look at the winding action as well anything feels inconsistent anything feels awkward it might be the chance that you’re holding a replica item in your hands

Tell #7 – Crown Guard

another tell on our guide the seventh one is about the crown guard the crown word are actually those two elements on the left and on the right side of the crown which are guarding the crown

you need to take a close look at the at those and see again if you can spot any inconsistencies

on the genuine item the guards are symmetrical and on the replica items besides the fact that in some cases those might not be symmetrical it might also be the case that they are a bit more thicker so they do not guard the crown as tight as on the genuine item

Tell #8 – Engravings On The Bezel

for the eighth step which we’re gonna discuss right now we’re gonna check the engravings on the basil the basil is the outer circle above the dial uh with those engravings with the numbers 10 20 30 40 and 50 and with with those lines at 12 o’clock one o’clock three o’clock five o’clock seven nine and eleven o’clock

those engravings have to be very consistent on the genuine item and will be very consistent on the genuine item with the same color the same depth of the engravings

while on the replica items the color might be different in some cases even on the same basil and you might find inconsistencies when it comes to the depth of the engravings

so take a close look at the engravings on the basis as well

Tell #9 – Engravings On The Rehaut

for the ninth step we’re going to take a look at the engravings on the re-hot the engravings are made up of the rolex letters as well as the crown and the serial number that can be found around six o’clock on the re-hot

you need to take a close look at those engravings because all the elements in these engravings have to be perfectly aligned with the minute markers including the crown at 12 o’clock has to be perfectly aligned with the 12 o’clock marker

the serial number in some cases even on the genuine item might not be perfectly centered but all the other elements have to be centered and aligned with the with the hour markers on the rihot

Tell #10 – Sunburst Dial Effect

for the 10th step and the last step on our guide we’re going to examine the sunburst dial effect which is present on the rolex hulk genuine item

so on this authentic item the sun will reflect in a very nice and elegant manner whenever it hits your dial with a very consistent color the green color present on the dial

while on the replica items some replicas some cheaper replicas don’t even have the sunburst dial effect at all while some of the higher quality replicas like the one that we’re having right here on our guide present will replicate the sunburst dial effect

but it will either be a bit darker or a bit lighter so the sun burst effect will not be very consistent like on the gne knight

so when looking at the sun burst dial effect you need to keep in mind that on the replica item this effect will not be present to the same extent as on the genuine item

take a closer look at the dial and see how the sun reflects or any other source of light in your dial and how the sunburst effect is present on your watch

Who Can Authenticate My Rolex Submariner Hulk?

The Rolex Submariner Hulk (ref. 116610LV) is one of the most sought-after modern Rolex watches. Since it was discontinued in 2020, prices have climbed steadily, and with that, counterfeiters have worked harder to copy its emerald bezel and shifting green dial. A single mistake in judgment can mean losing $15,000 or more on a convincing fake.

Our authentication service is designed for collectors who refuse to leave that kind of risk to chance. Every Hulk we inspect is reviewed in full detail by experienced specialists, not by software. Each check is carried out by people who know how this reference should look and feel across every production year.

During the process, we examine:

  • Bezel hue and the depth of its green ceramic tone
  • The sunburst effect on the dial under angled light
  • Cyclops magnification and anti-reflective coating
  • Bracelet fit against the lugs and clasp finishing
  • Engravings on the rehaut and serials between the lugs
  • Bezel action, crown feel, and overall weight balance

Collectors don’t just come to us for peace of mind. They also want proof. Our Certificate of Authenticity gives you a documented safeguard you can use for resale, insurance, or even a refund claim if the watch proves to be counterfeit. In today’s market, that certificate can mean the difference between keeping or losing your investment.

Conclusion: How to Confirm Your Rolex Submariner Hulk’s Authenticity

The Hulk’s identity lives in its green. That emerald tone on the bezel and the sunburst dial that shifts with light are the fastest tells, but they are only the start. A sound authenticity-check layers colour, alignment, feel, and finishing. In this guide, we walked through the checks collectors rely on for the 116610LV, from the way the cyclops magnifies the date, to the fit of the end links, to the depth of the bezel engravings.

What separates an authentic Hulk from a convincing counterfeit is harmony. Genuine pieces line up across every area, the dial typography is clean, the rehaut pairs with the minute track, the bracelet sits tight against the lugs, and the bezel and crown feel controlled in the hand. Fakes usually miss on more than one of these, often starting with colour and ending with finishing you can feel the moment you handle the watch.

Quick recap for the Hulk

  • Colour tone → Authentic watches must show a deep emerald bezel and a dial that shifts shades under light. Fakes will often look flat, too lime, or too dark with no real sunburst.
  • Cyclops and date → Authentic watches must give a sharp 2.5× magnified date, centred and even. Fakes will often show weak magnification, glare, or drifting digits.
  • Bracelet and lugs → Authentic watches must seat the end links flush with clean lug edges. Fakes will often leave daylight gaps, rocking end links, or rough inner lug cuts.
  • Bezel engravings and pearl → Authentic watches must have deep, wide, crisp numerals and a pearl that sits flush. Fakes will often have shallow cuts and a recessed or messy pearl.
  • Bezel action → Authentic watches must rotate with smooth, even 120 clicks. Fakes will often feel gritty, loose, or inconsistent across the turn.
  • Winding and crown feel → Authentic watches must unscrew and wind smoothly with controlled resistance. Fakes will often feel jerky, scratchy, or uneven.
  • Rehaut alignment → Authentic watches must align each “ROLEX” and the crown at 12 with the minute markers. Fakes will often drift or look faint and thin.
  • Case profile engravings → Authentic watches must show sharp, even serial and reference numbers between the lugs. Fakes will often be shallow, misaligned, or incorrect.
  • Weight balance → Authentic watches must feel substantial and balanced across head and bracelet. Fakes will often be too light from cheap alloys or oddly heavy from filler.

FAQ: Real vs Fake Rolex Submariner Hulk (2025)

1. Is the Rolex Submariner Hulk discontinued, and can you still buy it new?

Yes, the Rolex Submariner Hulk (ref. 116610LV) was discontinued in 2020 when the Submariner line moved from 40 mm to 41 mm cases. Because production stopped, you can no longer buy the Hulk new from authorized Rolex dealers. Collectors now turn to the secondary market, where prices have risen sharply. This discontinuation makes authenticity checks even more important, since the high demand has attracted increasingly convincing counterfeits.

2. Why is the Rolex Hulk considered rare?

The Hulk was produced for roughly a decade, from 2010 to 2020, but in quantities far smaller than standard black Submariners. Its distinct emerald bezel and sunburst green dial make it instantly recognizable, and those traits are difficult for counterfeiters to replicate convincingly. Rarity comes not only from production numbers but also from the fact that many owners hold onto their pieces, limiting supply on the open market. This scarcity has fueled collector demand and premium pricing.

3. What is the difference between the Rolex Hulk and the Rolex Kermit?

The Rolex Hulk (116610LV) features a green ceramic bezel and a green sunburst dial, giving it a full emerald appearance. By contrast, the original Kermit (16610LV), launched for the Submariner’s 50th anniversary in 2003, has a green aluminum bezel paired with a traditional black dial. The newer “Cermit” or “Starbucks” (126610LV) continues the black-dial, green-bezel design but with a 41 mm case. When authenticating, pay close attention to bezel material, dial color, and case size, since these are key identifiers across the LV family.

4. Does the Rolex Hulk increase in value over time?

Since its discontinuation, the Submariner Hulk has steadily appreciated in value. Market prices have more than doubled compared to its original retail, driven by rarity and strong collector demand. However, value depends heavily on authenticity and condition. Full sets with box, papers, and unpolished cases command the highest premiums. Counterfeits and Frankenwatches are common in this price tier, which is why an authenticity check and documented provenance are essential before purchase.

5. What is the difference between Mark 1 and Mark 2 Rolex Hulk dials?

Collectors distinguish early “Mark 1” Hulks from later “Mark 2” versions. The Mark 1 dial, seen in the earliest years of production, shows a slightly lighter sunburst effect and subtle differences in font thickness on the dial text. The Mark 2 dial, which became the standard, displays a deeper emerald tone and more consistent printing. Both are genuine, but being able to recognize the variation helps collectors avoid confusion with aftermarket or counterfeit dials. A loupe inspection of the dial texture and typography is the best way to confirm the correct version.
